Monastery and castle, Salem

Cistercian abbey combines Baroque splendour with Gothic dignity. In the 19th century the margraves of Baden took over the huge monastery complex.

Island Mainau
|
Palms and other mediterranean plants grow on the drop-shaped island “Mainau" due to the mild climate
around Lake Constance. Because of its subtropical, partly also tropical vegetation, the island of Mainau is also called the “flower island in Lake Constance". Throughout a year a day
trip to the island is worthwhile. A boat trip from Meersburg with a passenger ship to the island is highly recommended. The island is not only a special destination for flower lovers
– the new playground or the butterfly house offers children also fun.
